Ship catches fire on Caspian coast of Azerbaijan

Ship Kaya Kend, registered with the  Makhachkala port, which was sailing under Russian flag, caught fire in the waters of the Azerbaijan Republic on the Caspian Sea at night on March 12.

According to Azerbaijan’s State Maritime Administration, the incident occurred 4 miles away from the Chilov Island. Due to the severe fire, captain of the ship sent SOS signal calling rescue helicopters and ships of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan to the scene.

At around 2 o'clock at early morning16 people were rescued from the ship and delivered to the shore.

The ship will be delivered to the Baku port after the rescue work carried out with the help of a fishing vessel completes.
