Infant and maternal mortality rate declines in Azerbaijan

Infant mortality rate was 12.0 ppm in Azerbaijan in 2008 while this figure dropped to 11.4 ppm in 2009, Azerbaijani Health Ministry official Soltan Aliyev said at the ministry’s board meeting.

He said the maternal mortality rate has fell from 26.1 ppm (per 100, 000 newly-born children) to 24.3 ppm last year.

"The Health Ministry keeps the issue of maternal death under strict control. Every fact of maternal death is analyzed and discussed in the relevant commission,  procedural documents and clinical protocols are developed and seminars are conducted on this matter,” Aliyev said.
