"In some regions of Azerbaijan gender indicators of entrants differ sharply. This difference is particularly observed in the southern regions,” Chairperson of the State Student Admission Commission Maleyka Abbaszade said at a news conference.
She said that only 10 percent of the entrants from Azerbaijan’s southern regions are girls.
“It means that our girls are deprived of right to education. There were 479 entrants from Yardimli region last year, only 45 of them were girls. There were 469 entrants from Lerik, 81 of them were girls,” he said.
Abbaszade said female entrants prevail in the western regions.
“This is because boys leave these regions for the capital or Russia at the early age. We have informed not only Education Ministry, but also the entire society about it. Unfortunately, the problem remains unsolved,” she said.
