The International Islamic Culinary Festival kicked off in Baku as part of Baku –Islamic Culture Capital 2009.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Sevda Mammadaliyeva welcomed the guests and wished success to the festival.
The president of the World Association of Cooks Societies Gissur Gudmundsson and President of the International Organization of Folk Art Carmen Padilla expressed confidence in fair results of the contests to be held within the festival.
They welcomed the successes of Azerbaijani cooks in the different international festivals.
Director of the National Culinary Center of Azerbaijan Tahir Amiraslanov said the winners would be selected by the international jury.
He said such events would be regularly organized in Azerbaijan further.
He said cooks teams from Belarus, the Philippines, Georgia, Iran, Iceland, Canada, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Greece and other countries are participating at the festival.
They will attend different competitions to be held within the festival until Oct. 10.
The participants will also attend a round table “Role of culinary in the society: development prospects”.
The winner will be announced on Oct. 9. Department chief of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Fikrat Babayev told reporters that the festival will be organized in every two years.
Turkish, Belarusian, Uzbek, Iranian and Azerbaijani cooks presented different figures prepared from foods and fruits in the opening ceremony. The participants also have an opportunity to buy different figures describing history, culture and monuments of Azerbaijan.
