27 August 2009 [09:23] - TODAY.AZ
Poti Court of Georgia sentenced former captain of Buket ship, Azerbaijani citizen Ilgar Imanverdiyev, to two months in jail as a preliminary measure, a source at the Poti Court said.
Thus, the court satisfied petition of prosecutor's office which states that he repeatedly violated Georgian territorial waters and visited Abkhazia with smuggled freight when he was a captain of the ship operating under Panama flag.

Imanverdiyev was detained at Edirne tanker under a flag of Sierra-Leone in Batumi while passport examining. The tanker was fined by Georgia for water pollution. After paying a fine, it was released.

However, ex-captain of Buket Imanverdiyev was detained during passport examining.

A source at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia said the diplomats are consulting with Georgia and will take all legitimate measures to protect rights of the Azerbaijani citizen.
