Transparency International report distorted: Transparency International Baku Office

26 August 2009 [17:18] - TODAY.AZ
Media reports about corruption figures included in Transparency International are not true, head of the Azerbaijani office of Transparency International said.
Transparency International releases a report on corruption figures every year. The latest figures were announced in September 2008. In the list, Azerbaijan was 158th out of 180 countries. The new report will be made public in October or November"  the Executive Director of the Azerbaijani office of Transparency International Rana Safaraliyeva said.

Some media reports claim Azerbaijan ranks second in the list of countries with a high level of corruption in the latest report by the Transparency International.

Safaraliyeva said some Azerbaijani media reports distorted the report.

The media has misunderstood organization's report to which they referred. The members of Transparency Azerbaijan are currently working to publish a correction in the newspaper which spread the reports, Safaraliyeva added.
