Azerbaijani ambassador to Georgia: Azerbaijanis on board of arrested Buket ship have no problems

19 August 2009 [11:27] - TODAY.AZ
“Azerbaijanis on board of the Buket ship arrested on the Georgian waters have no problems,” Azerbaijani ambassador to Georgia Namig Aliyev said.
Georgia’s Coast Guard Department have arrested Panama-flagged ship Buket in the territorial waters of Georgia because of illegal crossing Georgia’s state border and entering into the occupied territory of Abkhazia in violation of maritime rules.

The tanker, which was carrying 2 tons of gasoline and 700 tons of diesel fuel, was heading from Turkish port to Sukhumi. The ship has 13 Turkish and four Azerbaijanis on board.

“At early morning today the consul left to visit Azerbaijanis. He will try to meet with them later today,” he said.

“It should be noted that the responsibility for the fact that the ship entered the territory of Abkhazia and violated Georgia's state border rests with the captain. So I think there will be no charges against Azerbaijanis and they will be released after some procedures,” Aliyev said.
