08 July 2009 [11:53] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry Central Security Department provides security of nearly 8,500 private and public facilities.

Head of the department Madat Guliyev said at the scientific and practical conference of the CIS security services in Baku.

He said roughly 1,000 of the facilities are apartment buildings.

"A contract has been signed with almost 1,500 property owners to provide security. Alarm systems of modern type meeting international standards have been installed in these sites. At the same time the computerized and centralized points of security operate in Baku and industrial cities. Generally, over 3,000 facilities in the country are protected via these systems," the head of the department said.

Over last three years, employees of the protection department withdrew about a hundred pieces of firearms, over 22,000 different types of ammunition that have been illegally kept by citizens.

"At 163 protected sites, the employees prevented theft, about 400 other criminal cases, as a result of which 650 criminals were arrested and handed over to the police, and 180 wanted and more than 3,000 individuals who violate public order," Guliyev said.

Guliyev said security units of the Central Security Department protect public and private properties and apartment buildings on the basis of applications received by them in Azerbaijan's different regions of the country.

"The funds, received from owners for the security, are regulated in line with tariffs developed by the department," he said.

Heads of the protection departments of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Tajikistan are attending the two-day conference. The meeting focuses on issues to improve activities of protection services under modern conditions and prospects for future development.
