Azerbaijani Press Council uncovers 2,545 ethical code violations in one month

The monitoring performed by the Press Council uncovered 2,545 ethic code violations in a single month.
"A total of 2,355 violations were uncovered in newspapers and 190 on Web sites," Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov said at a press conference.

There are over 3,300 media outlets in Azerbaijan; 600 operate at the moment. There are 400 newspapers and magazines, over 20 television channels and 20 news agencies in the country.

Amashov said the majority of violations account for not quoting sources (530 times) and copyright violations (444 times).

"The monitoring also uncovered slander, distortion of opinion and ungrounded criticism," he said.

The monitoring uncovered 184 violations of dignity, pride and personal life.

The Press Council is implementing the Ethical Code Norms and Laws in Press project with the support of the U.S. Embassy Public Relations Office.
