Official opening of affiliate of Moscow State University held in Baku - UPDATED

The foundation of the new educational complex of the affiliate of the Moscow State University of Lomonosov was laid in Lokbatan settlement of Garadagh region of Baku, according to the press secretariat of the president, Novosti-Azerbaijan reports.

The ceremony was attended by the rector of the Moscow State University of Lomonosov Viktor Sadovnichiy, Minister of Education and Science of Russia Andrey Fursenko, rector of the Baku affiliate of the Moscow State University Nargiz Pashayeva.

Speaking at the event Nargiz Pashayeva noted that laying foundation of the educational complex and its activity in the future will be an additional stimulus for development of bilateral relations and indicate the attention that the state pays to the educational sphere.

Rector of the Moscow State University of Lomonosov Viktor Sadovnichiy in his speech stressed the importance of this event for strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan in the sphere of science and education.

According to AzerTac, the ceremony was also attended by the Russian delegation, led by Sergey Narishkin, head of the presidential administration of Russia.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev warmly congratulated the teachers and students with the remarkable event. He noted that the affiliate opening became one more proof of the level of relations between our countries and cooperation in humanitarian sphere".

Sergey Narishkin called the opening of the affiliate of the world-famous Russian high school "an important event both for Russia and Azerbaijan and the whole CIS especially because the year of 2009 is declared the Year of Youth in the Commonwealth". He thanked the Azerbaijani President for attention, paid to the preservation and development of Russian language.

Rector of the Moscow State University of Lomonosov Viktor Sadovnichit in turn noted that the Moscow University highly appreciates efforts of the Azerbaijani president aimed at developing education.

The opening was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, head of Russian presidential administration Sergey Narishkin and officials of the two countries.

President of Azerbaijan signed a resolution on opening the affiliate of the Moscow State University of Mikhail Lomonosov on January 15. The educational activity is based on the curriculum of the Moscow State University. Classes are mainly held by the teaching staff of the Moscow State University, the affiliate graduates will get the diploma of the Moscow State University.

25 people entered each of the faculties of philology, chemistry and applied math to function under the Baku affiliate of the University.
