Azerbaijani army soldier commits suicide due to servicemen pressure

According to the spokesman for the Military prosecutor's office Afraim Tahmanov, a criminal case has been instituted under article 125 (reducing to suicide) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Speaking about torturing of the soldier by the sergeant and the warrant officer of the military unit Afraim Tahmazov noted that the prosecutor's office is investigating this issue.

"No one has been brought to responsibility so far. It will become clear whether the soldier really died in the result of tortures only after investigation", said Tahmazov.

Notably on February 2 of 2009 soldier Orkhan Veliyev, recruitted by the military enlistment office of Sumgayit in October of 2008 shot himself dead in the military unit.

He told his parents that he shot himself dead as the ensign and the soldier of the military unit abused him and pressed on him. Veliyev died in the Central Clinic Hospital of the Defense Ministry on February 17.
