Ship with a crew from among Azerbaijani citizens takes bottom in Black Sea - UPDATED

The Kardeliya motor vessel load of about 3,000 tons of grain, directed to Georgia, was damaged in the region of the Kavkaz Black Sea port (Krasnodar, Russia) on Saturday morning.

Divers have started the inspection of the hole in the dry cargo ship in the Kerchen strait, where the vessel, carrying grain to Georgia, has taken the bottom.

Currently, the vessel is in the area of an anchore station in the territory of the Kavkaz port.

The hole in the vessel was revealed after coming out of the Azov Sea. It is unclear how long the repair works will last, however, as is reported, the hole has already been completely eliminated by the crew.

The Kardeliya motor vessel load of about 3,000 tons of grain, directed to Georgia, was damaged in the region of the Kavkaz Black Sea port (Krasnodar, Russia) on Saturday morning, said sources from the law enforcement bodies of the region.

Kardeliya is sailing under Cambodia’s flag.

As is reported, the vessel was sailing from Eisk to Poti in the accompaniment of an icebreaker, when it was damaged in the area of the Kavkaz port. Currently, the have have taken the bottom independently to hold the repair. The heel angle is five degrees.

The crew of the vessel includes 12 people- 7 Azerbaijani and 5 Georgian citizens.
