29 October 2008 [09:48] - TODAY.AZ
On October 28, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev examined the newly overhauled and reconstructed building of the Writers’ Union, Day.Az reports with reference to AzerTac.
Mounted in 1915, the building, which is one of the architectural monuments of Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, has never undergone major repair before.

Repair activities began in March, 2007 under the relevant Executive Order by President Ilham Aliyev. The classical architectural style of the building has been preserved, but a special lighting system has been installed to illuminate its front side.

Chairman of the Writers’ Union Anar informed President Ilham Aliyev about the repair and reconstruction work done. The President viewed a photo-stand depicting the past and present look of the building as well as the statue of the nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev erected in the foyer.

After that, President Ilham Aliyev toured the building’s rooms to examine conditions created in them. He also viewed the room, in which People’s Poet Samad Vurgun once worked.

The President gave instructions relating to applying the building with necessary equipment.

The three-storey building covering an area of 1915 square meters contains up to 50 rooms and a large conference hall.
