Azerbaijan to make wireless broadband available next year

Azerbaijan will introduce widespread use of wireless broadband, a fairly new technology that provides high-speed wireless internet and data network access over a wide area, said Iltimas Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

He added that tens of thousands of people use broadband connections in the country at present.

"We are not satisfied with the number of users not only in the regions but also in Baku. To expand the coverage area, there is a necessary infrastructure base," he noted.

Mammadov added that not only wired but also wireless broadband will be made available next year.

"WiMAX technology allows connecting to broadband Internet even when driving in a car at high speed," he added.
