A joint reserve will be created on Azerbaijani-Georgian border

In the result of expansion of the territory of the Zagatala state natural reserve at the cost of the Balaken woods (23,292 hectares) and Zagatala forest (213 hectares), the overall area of the reserve has reached 47,349 hectares, reports the press service for the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.

As is noted here, currently works are held for creation of the Zagatala state wildlife sanctuary, covering an area of 7,079 hectares. The wildlife sanctuary will cover an area, bordering on the reserve.

A specially protected natural area Balaken-Lagodekhi to unite a foreign frontier massive, locating in Azerbaijan and Georgia, will be created under recommendations of the international organizations. A biosphere reserve will be created in Azerbaijan in the result.

According to the Ministry, the overall area of specially protected natural area is currently 771,907 hectares.
