An ancient settlement, dating back to the 6th millennium B.C. has been discovered in Tovuz region of Azerbaijan, said a press service of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, according to Interfax-Azerbaijan.

The territory of Geytepe settlement near Ashaghy Gushchu village covers an area of about 2 hectares.
By the help of the radiocarbon analysis, held by French specialists, it was revealed that the monument dates back to the 6th millennium B.C.
Reports say that an expedition headed by Farhad Quliyev, candidate of historical sciences under the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, discovered complexes, residential houses and economic establishments, built of crude bricks, locating close to each others.
The Geytepe memorial dates to the period when ancient people were passing to sedentary life and agriculture.
This memorial will be protected by the state and in this connection the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as the executive powers of Tovuz have taken due measures.
