01 September 2008 [10:12] - TODAY.AZ
Security measures, taken in several mosques of Baku, are aimed to ensure security of the religious people, announced Allahshukur Pashazade, chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Department, according to Interfax-Azerbaijan.
"These steps are not targeting the religion, they are aimed at ensuring security of our citizens. Someone has thrown a grenade, which resulted in casualties.

We have not made any instructions to restrict attendance of the mosques", said Pashazade, according to ANS TV channel.

It should be reminded that the explosion in Baku Abu Bekir mosque occurred during a prayer on August 17. By preliminary data, a grenade was thrown to the window of the mosque, which resulted in a death of three people and injuries to about ten.

Additional security measures are being taken in several mosques of the capital of Azerbaijan, in particular, it is prohibited to pray in the yards of the mosques and at the adjacent areas, which has been practiced before.

Speaking of an explosion in Abu Bekir mosque, the head of the department noted: "The investigation is carried out. There have never been such events in Azerbaijan. Murder of people in a temple is a great sin. This is a result of insane actions".
