Court dismisses Agil Halil's appeal against Azerbaijani TV channels

29 August 2008 [10:42] - TODAY.AZ
The Yasamal district court, presided by judge Haqani Taghiyev, held a court hearing on the claim of Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Agil Halil against the prosecutor general's office, inspector Ali Quliyev and TV channels (AzTV, Lider, Space and ATV), reports Day.Az with reference to the Institute for Reporter Freedom and Safety.

Speaking in the court, A.Halil's defender Elchin Sadikhov noted that the video material, sent by the prosecutor's office to the TV channels, is assessed as a humiliation of his defendant and announced that this contradicts to the local and international legislation.

"In line with the law, the demonstration of video materials is possible only in two cases: by approval of the person or by the decision of the court", noted Sadikhov.

The TV channels representatives announced that they do not understand the essence of the claim and noted that the video material, presented to them by the prosecutor's office, was demonstrated in order to inform the public.

Thus, Khaqani Taghiyev decided not to grant the claim after hearing the arguments of both parties.

It should be noted that the aforementioned TV channels demonstrated a video material, in which homosexual Sergey Strekalin admitted that he had intimate relationships with Azadlyg correspondent Agil Halil.
