Special representative of CE secretary general: "Journalists should not be arrested for their professional activity"

Special representative of the CE Secretary General in Azerbaijan Veronika Kotek called on powers to free the three imprisoned journalists.
"Journalists should not be arrested for their professional activity", said Veronika Kotek Tuesday.

According to Interfax-Azerbaijan, the CE representative stressed existence of definite problems in the activity of mass medias in Azerbaijan but noted that this is natural for any country, which is in the threshold of elections.

She announced that the Council of Europe intends to closely watch the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan, appointed for October 15.

"The CE Baku office intends to closely cooperate both with mass media representatives and members of the Central Election Commission in the threshold of elections", concluded she.
