Allahshukur Pashazadeh: "The happenings in the mosque known as Abu Bekir should not be regarded as a religious problem"

18 August 2008 [14:38] - TODAY.AZ
"The happenings in Abu Bekir mosque are a result of discord between two groups. These groups can’t stand each other, but this should not be regarded as a religious problem", taking a stance on the explosion in Juma Mosque, known as Abu Bekir mosque, chairman of Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh told APA exclusively.

Sheikh said that the happenings in the mosque could not damage tolerance in Azerbaijan. He said such event had not happened in Azerbaijan before and did not rule out the role of enemy forces.

"The whole world knows that Azerbaijan is a tolerant country. If there had been a problem in the religious field in Azerbaijan, such acts would have been committed against the representatives of other religions – Jews, Christians. Commitment of such an action by a Muslim against a Muslim is a rivalry and revenge. I reiterate that such an action had not been committed against the Christians or Jews freely living in Azerbaijan," he said.

Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office said the investigation was underway and it was difficult to say something definite unless the investigation was over. Allahshukur Pashazadeh said he had sent his assistant to the site and was keeping the process under the control.

As regards further activity of the mosque, Sheikh said it was a place for prayer and would also continue functioning as a mosque.
