Samir Dadashov: "Rumors about my suicide attempt are a blatant lie"

Chief of Azerbaijani Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov monitored detention place of National Security Ministry.
The committee chief said he had met with Samir Dadashov, former director of the State Anti-Monopoly Service under the Ministry of Economic Development.

Behbudov said Samir Dadashov did not complain of his detention conditions. Elchin Behbudov said Dadashov refuted media reports that he attempted to hang himself.

"He was surprised when I asked him about him and said it was a blatant lie. He expressed his protest against discussions about him in media," he said.

The committee chief said Samir Dadashov had faced charges under article 311 (bribery) of the Criminal Code and did not admit his guilt.

"Samir Dadashov asked me to help commute his sentence to home arrest. I have informed the ministry about it," he said.

Human rights defender said he had also talked to former deputy chief of State Anti-Monopoly Service Mammadov Yalchin Vilayat, who was detained along with Samir Dadashov and faced similar charges.

"He did not complain of his detention conditions either. He said he had liver problems and partially admitted his guilt," he said.

Human rights defender also met with Shahmirzayev Ilham Agamurad, former head of sector for Maintenance of Competition of State Anti-Monopoly Service. Elchin Behbudov said he faced similar charges and partially admitted his guilt. Shahmirzayev did not complain of his detention conditions either.
