Armenian-occupied Azerbaijani city of Agdam among most amazing ghost-towns

12 August 2008 [15:18] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani city of Agdam, occupied by Armenians, has added to the list of the ghost towns.
20 most amazing abandonments were included into the list, compiled by WebUrbanist.com.

The first on the list was Kowloon, near Hong Kong. Now there is a park "The city, surrounded with a wall in its place".

Earlier, the Kowloon was a city of slums, where criminals and anti-sanitary ruled.

The second place was taken by the small village of Oradour-sur-Glane, France, which is the setting of unspeakable horror. During World War II, 642 residents were massacred by German soldiers as punishment for the French Resistance.

The third place belongs to Kolmanskop, a small town located a few miles inland from the port of Ljuderitz in Namibia. Windswept sand has made its way into nearly every building in the town, which was once a diamond mining town and abandoned in 1956 as diamond demand declined and richer sources of diamonds were discovered in other areas. Its only residents are now birds, hyenas and other animals.

The fourth place belongs to the abandoned miner's city of Humberstone, Chile. The fifth is Australian Wittenoom.

US Gary in Indiana state and Ruby in Arizona state as well as Agdam city in Azerbaijan were also included into the list of most amazing abandonments.
