Verdict passed on members of Al-Qaeda terrorist group in Azerbaijan

The accused were Arabian native Abu Jafar, as well as Elchin Alimirzoyev, Vidadi Kerimov, Telman Abdullayev, Adil Qarakhanov, Vitali Aghamamedov, Asef Hasanov, Danial Abuev, Rafael Rahimov, Mirza Babayev, Qadir Hajiyev, Vuqar Aliyev, Emin Jami, Loghman Muradov, Habil Masmaliyev and Parviz Kerimov.

Under the verdict, Abu Jafar was sentenced to 14 years in prison, Elchin Alimirzoyev to 12 years, Vidadi Kerimov to 9 years and the rest from 3 to 8 years.

They are charged under articles 315.2 (resistance or use of life or health threatening force against officials), 228.2.1 ( illegal purchase, transfer, sale, storing, transportation or carrying of guns, spare parts, ammunitions, explosives and explosion facilities by a group of person under preliminary agreement), 279.2 (attacks on enterprises, establishments, organizations or individuals within the armed formations or groups, not envisioned by the Azerbaijani legislation) of the Criminal Code.

Notably, in the result of operation, carried out by the officials of the Ministry of National Security, Abu Jafar, linked with Al-Qaeda and Al-Jihad terrorist organizations and a number of other persons were detained. Arriving in Azerbaijan, they created an armed grouping of persons, actively participating previously within illegal militarized groups in different conflict areas and radical vahhabis.

During the detainment, Telman Abdullayev showed armed resistence, wounding two policemen with his gun.

The confiscated from the criminals, as well as their flats and caches were: a submachine gun, 3 guns, a sown-off gun, 12 ball grenades, 11 primers, 1,75 kg trotyl, 4 meters safety fuse, 91 detonators, 4 hgun chargers, 4 magazines, 25 cartridges, about 600 submachine gum cartridges, 3 special lanterns, 2 compasses, a sing rocket, a electric facility, map of Sumgayit and so on.
