Importation of exotic birds from Azerbaijan prevented in Novosibirsk

The incident occurred in the Novosibirsk airport of Tolmachevo. When the luggage of passengers, arriving from Baku, was inspected, the inspectors revealed two  peacocks and two pheasants.

According to the press service for the department, the birds were transported with violations of the requirements of the Russian veterinary law.

"Moreover, due to the poor epizootic situation in the South Caucasus and cases of African fever in Azerbaijan, importation of animals and birds from this country to Russia is prohibited for security purposes", added the press service.

The birds will soon be sent back to Azerbaijan.

It is unclear why the exportation of birds was not prevented by the due bodies of Azerbaijan.
