Hero of homosexual court process sentenced to 1.5 years

The Nasimi district court presided by judge Shahin Abdullayev held a court hearing on the case of homosexual Sergey Strekalin, accused of stabbing Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Agil Halil, said general director of the newspaper Azer Ahmedov.
He said the court found Strekalin guilty under articles 127.1 and 234.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and sentenced him to 1.5 years in prison with holding at the common penal colony.

At yesterday's court hearing the state prosecutor demanded 2 years imprisonment for Sergey Strekalin.

In line with the case materials, journalist A.Halil was stabbed in the chest on March 13 of 2008.

Sergey Strekalin was charged under articles 127.1 (deliberate causing of slight, not life-threatening harm to health) and 234.1 (illegal production, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of drugs, psychotropic substances or precursors) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Strekalin met Halil near Ganjlik metro station in 2005 and they had sexual relationships.

It should be noted that on February 22 Halil was brutally beaten in Baku as he was taking photos in the Olive Garden. The journalist had his fingers broken.
