Ban on Shuvelan, Mardakan, Shikhov, Sahil, Jorat and Sumgayit beaches retained

14 July 2008 [16:12] - TODAY.AZ
The Republic center of hygiene and epidemiology under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Public Health has finished laboratory researches held for control over the situation at the Baku beaches, reports Day.Az with reference to the Azerbaijani Health Ministry.
By results of researches, the decision, adopted on May 30 of 2007 regarding the suspension of the activity of beaches in Shuvelan, Mardakan, Shikhov and Sahil (Qaradagh) settlements, has been retained.

"The reason for such a decision is a failure to terminate sources of intensive pollution of water at the beaches and high level of their bacteriological pollution", says the report.

The Republican center of hygiene and epidemiology has appealed to the Baku mayor's office and the head police department of Baku for conduction of due measures to prevent the population from swimming at the aforementioned beaches.

The ban on the beaches of Jorat alti and Z.Tagiyev's settlement of Sumgayit has been also been retained.
