Defender Elchin Sadikhov: "During confrontation the servant of Interior Ministry's official announced that the correspondent of the Yeni Musavat newspaper beat and abused her"

He said at yesterday's confrontation his defendant rebutted all Safarova's testimonies.

"Ismayiloghlu announced that there have been no incident between him and Safarova. He did not beat her, on the contrary, she treated him aggressively, using coarse words addressed to him", said defender Sadikhov.

The human rights activist noted that four witnesses, stating that Ismayiloghlu did not beat Safarova, were also interrogated.

It should be noted that journalist Ismayiloghlu said Safarova is a servant of Interior Ministry's official Vahid Imanov. Safarova filed a claim to the police because Ismayiloghlu beat her for throwing garbage in front of his gates.

Criminal case has been instituted against him under article 221.3 (hooliganism, committed with use of gun or objects, used as a gun) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Such crimes envision inprisonment for the term of 3-7 years.
