UN launches project to prevent violence against women in Azerbaijan

The project, implemented by UN Populations Fund, is aimed at preventing violence against women in Azerbaijan by way of informing the population about human rights, gender equality and provision of women's participation in public life.

The project is intended for three years and financed by the government of Norway. This is the first large-scale project in this sphere. The main aim of the project is to study causes and consequences of violence against women (especially, violence within a family), inform population about gender problems, gender rights and gender equality, assist to development of laws, programs and strategies for protection of women's rights and for combat with violence against women, protection of violated rights, as well as coordination of a joint activity of all organizations, working for the resolution of gender issues.

The project is implemented in close cooperation with the State Committee for Problems of Family, Women and Children, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Labor and Social protection, Parliament of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan and nongovernmental organizations.
