Parents of convicted journalist ask President of Azerbaijan to pardon him

The due announcement was made by a source from the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety.

In their appeal Tofik Huseynov and Rena Huseynova ask the president to release their son.

The source noted that Elchin Behbudov, chairman of the Azerbaijani Committee Against Torture visited correctional facility No 2 and met with M.Huseynov.

According to the human rights activity, the journalist feels normal and he just caught a little cold.

Behbudov noted that the jail administration was going to transfer the journalist to the medical center but he refused to go.

It should be reminded that the Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Huseynov to 6 years of imprisonment on January 21 of 2008. Moreover, he was banned from engaging in journalism within two years. The Baku appellate court reduced the term to five years. The journalist was imprisoned by officials of the Ministry of National Security on June 24 of 2007. Huseynov was charged under article 311.1 (bribery).
