Russian senator Vladimir Jidkikh: "Situation with cargo, detained in Azerbaijan, will soon be settled, as there are no violations from the Russian side"

23 April 2008 [12:09] - TODAY.AZ
According to Russian senator Vladimir Jidkikh, the detainment of cargo, transportation from Russia and Iran and intended for Bushehr NPP by Azerbaijani customs services is a typical behavior of "low ranks" which are used to re-insure themselves.

As is reported, according to Azerbaijani frontier guards, their administration banned them to allow the cargo pass the border. Russian side in turn notes that the cargo containing thermal-insulating materials does not fall under the UN resolution on Iran as Bushehr NPP is an exception from the document.

"The detainment of our cargo for already 25 days can be called a misunderstanding", said Vladimir Jidkikh, member of subcommittee for nuclear power under Commission on natural monopolies of the Federation Council.

"This is a behavior of "low ranks", which are used to re-insurance and in this case perhaps, seek promotion", said the senator. "The situation is quite clear for understanding: this is Russia and it executes commitments before the Iranian side, transporting cargo via a third country".

According to Jidkikh, the situation will soon be settled as there are no violations from the Russia and this is execution of commitments in line with the UN sanctions.

"Bushehr NPP as a powerful atomic project of the Iranian nuclear program and therefore the UN Security Council must not become the object of political speculations", Vladimir Jidkikh.

"Time and professional actions of specialists, responsible for Russia's participation in construction in this object, will make it clear to everyone", said the member of the Federation Council.
