A session of the Milli Medjlis commission on human rights was held today.
The agenda of the session included the amendments to the UN convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.

Commission chairman Rabiyat Aslanova noted during the session that Azerbaijan joined the convention in 1995.

"Azerbaijan's law on gender equality based on the principles of this convention. Each country, which joined the convention accounts for national committees controlling the execution of the convention. Moreover, there is a UN committee for control over the execution of the requirements of this convention. National committees make a report on the situation in these countries each year", she said.

At the same time, Aslanova noted that several countries including the United States did not join the convention.

The commission chairman announced that amendments to the convention envision holding an annual session for consideration of national reports.

After the discussions the commission members approved the consideration of this issue at the plenary session of Milli Medjlis.
