World Committee for Freedom of Press appeals to President of Azerbaijan with request to release imprisoned reporters

30 January 2008 [11:14] - TODAY.AZ
The World Committee for Freedom of Press has appealed to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev with a request to release the imprisoned reporter, Anar Orudjev, chairman of the Caucasus Center of Media Researches said, Day.Az reports.

The appeal sent to the President blames the court decision, passed against editor-in-chief of the Khural newspaper Avaz Zeynally and its reporter Vugar Alekperov.

The appeal says that the imprisonment of Eynulla Fatullayev, Mirza Sakit and Ganimat Zahid is frustrating.

The letter states that the decisions, adopted against Zeynally and other reporters, are the attacks on independence of media and do not respond to the principles of formation of a democratic society.

The World Committee for Freedom of Press approves the decree to pardon five reporters and urges Ilham Aliyev to release other mass media representatives in the framework of his powers.
