Azerbaijani government and World Bank hold consultations on public learning development project

The government of Azerbaijan and the World Bank have initiated preliminary consultations on financing the second stage of the project "Development of Public Learning" (DPL).

The due information has been provided by the press service for the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan.

The second stage is designed for five years and will aim at raising the quality of education, strengthening professional potential of the teaching staff, development of a specialized strategy and creation of a national system of assessing pupils' knowledge, as well as the repair of educational establishments.

To prevent environmental pollution in result of repair, the Ministry of Defense, has worked out a plan of environmental management.

As has been reported by the representative of the World Bank in Azerbaijan Georgy Edjechaka, the World Bank has already allocated $22,000 for the educational sphere of Azerbaijan.

The credit agreement on "Development of Public Learning" was signed in Baku on September 19 of 2003. The World Bank has allocated $18 million for its implementation. The first stage covered 2003-2007. The second stage is designed for 2007-2010 and the third for 2010-2013.

On the whole, the Bank is ready to invest $61 million through 10 years of the project implementation.
