Nushirevan Magerramli: "Official Baku does not hurry to declare a tender for the frequency of the RTR TV channel"

The due information has been provided by Nushirevan Magerramly, chairman of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council.

He noted that official Baku keeps the issue open. "We are waiting for the reaction of Russia on the said issue", the chairman noted.

"If Russia agrees to broadcast an Azerbaijani TV channel on its territory. the broadcasting of the RTR-Planeta TV channel will resume and we are ready for it", he announced. "Otherwise, we will consider the declaration of a tender on the frequency of the  RTR-planeta TV channel. Therefore, we do not hurry in this issue. We are waiting for the reaction of the Russian side".

It should be noted that the issue of mutual broadcasting of Russian and Azerbaijani TV channels was discussed at  the session of the work group in Baku on July 23. The contract on mutual broadcasting of TV channels of Azerbaijan and Russia has been initialled. The session also discussed issue on technical agreement. The Azerbaijani side has prepared a draft document, which was introduced to the partner for consideration.

After that the said issue has been discussed on various levels of the structures of the two countries and in the Work group.

The recent discussions of the issue were held in Moscow in December of 2007 and Russia did not agree to broadcast the Azerbaijani TV channel in its territory. The issue has been discussed on the level of the intergovernmental commission of the two countries in Moscow on December 13.
