Embassy of France in Azerbaijan refuses issuing visa to Zerkalo reporter

10 December 2007 [11:42] - TODAY.AZ
The Embassy of France in Azerbaijan refused issuing visa to Jasur Mamedov (Sumerinli), the reporter of the Zerkalo and Ayna newspaper in Azerbaijan, without any cause
The reporter said that Sami Faltas, the executive director of the Center for European Security Studies, had sent him an official invitation for the conference on security, to be held in Haage (Netherlands) on December 13.

J.Mamaedov submitted all necessary documents to the Embassy of France on December 3, but the embassy refused to issue visa without stating reason.

"This action hindering my participation in the conference, does not comply with European standards and values. I'll try to learn the reasons of this action, but I still have some doubts", J.Mamedov noted.

The reporter does not exclude that this step is a demonstration of biassed attitude of the embassy towards him.

Notably, J.Mamedov is also an official of the British Institute of Peace and War Communities, the Russian newspaper "Voyenno-promishlenniy kuryer" and the editor-in-chief of the military website www.milaz.info.
