Police prevent journalists picket in Baku

16 May 2007 [07:57] - TODAY.AZ
A group of journalists attempted to hold a picket in Sabir Park, Baku.

Police prevented them from gathering together, got banners out of them and demanded to leave the territory. Despite negotiations with police, it was not allowed to read out the resolution of the picket.

Gundelik Azerbaijan newspaper chief editor Shahvalad Chobanoghlu tried to read the resolution but the police took the paper out of his hand and dispersed the gathering.

After that the Defence Committee for Eynulla Fatullayev held a meeting at Helsinki Civil Assemble's Azerbaijan National Committee. The meeting made a resolution calling for release of Eynulla Fatullayev, adoption of defamation law, and stop of pressures against journalists. APA
