Journalists attempt to picket

Editor of Gundelik Azerbaijan newspaper was obliged to read the picket resolution in Icheri Sheher (The Old City). The resolution condemned pressures on press and demanded the government to take appropriate steps.

The resolution also demanded the adoption of the law on defamation, abolition of 147 and 148 articles of the Criminal Code, finding Elmar Huseynov's murderers, releasing of arrested journalists, stopping campaigns against Gundelik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers.

Shamil Seyidli, spokesman for Baku Main Police Office said that the unsanctioned picket was prevented, no one was detained.

The picket was organized by the newspapers Zerkalo, Yeni Musavat, Buizim yol, Baku-Kheber, GUNseher, Gundelik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan, magazines Ganun, Turan agency, Yeni Nesil Journalists Union and Democratic Journalists League. APA
