Gobustan lifers go on hunger strike

Life-term prisoners of Gobustan jail of Azerbaijan continue to go on hunger strike demanding commuting their punishment.

Head of Azerbaijan Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov told APA they do not know the exact number of hunger-striking prisoners.

Justice Ministry Penitentiary Service Public Relation's Chairman Rafig Ramazanov confirmed the report on hunger strike in Gobustan but indicated no number of prisoners.

Penitentiary Service said not many prisoners went on hunger strike. According to yesterday's reports, 33 lifers started hunger strike.

The news about 45 strikers came at the end of the day. The protesting life-term prisoners applied to commute their punishment to 15-year imprisonment.
