Azerbaijani poet's funeral held

Funeral of Azerbaijani people's poet Gabil Imamverdiyev was held in the Rashid Behbudov Azerbaijan State Song Theatre. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev attended the funeral.

Deputy Prime Minister Elchin Afandiyev attending the funeral ceremony said it is a serious loss for Azerbaijani literature.

"Gabil was distinguished for his unique personality and masses of readers in Azerbaijani literature and admired his nation," Afandiyev said.

Azerbaijan Writers' Union chief Anar expressed his sadness on the death of poet Gabil.

"Much to my regret, Gabil will not come to my room and read his poems after it. Gabil was distinguished for his simplicity and he never troubled anybody in his 81st yearly life and died without troubling anybody," Anar said.

Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev said that the poet was Azerbaijan's devoted citizen and literary figure till his last days and nobody can substitute him.

Academician Bekir Nabiyev said that people's poet was distinguished with his grandness in Azerbaijani literature.

People's poets Sabir Rustamkhanli, Zalimkhan Yagub also attended the funeral ceremony.

At the end of farewell ceremony, Gabil's son Mahir Imamverdiyev expressed his thanks for such care, APA reports.
