Measures are planned to prevent suicides in detention places

The meeting mainly covered discussion over the situation in Gobustan jail. The members of the committee have overlooked the decisions of the relevant bodies on the result of the monitoring held in Gobustan jail on November 7 last year.

It was stressed that expedient measures are being implemented to better the work of the jail. For instance, the jail's canteen was supplied with new equipment in the framework of the program on reforming penitentiary service between Azerbaijan's Justice Ministry and Council of Europe and European Commission.

At the same time, four rooms have been reconstructed in the jail and supplied with necessary equipment (TV set, beds, heating radiator, refrigerator and so on) in order to ensure long-term meeting of the prisoners with their relatives. Laundry has been separated, the library has been enriched for prisoners to get information.

The committee also stated that at present measures plan are being worked out to prevent suicides in detention places, APA reports.
