28 February 2007 [17:07] - TODAY.AZ
UNESCO will send a fact-finding mission to the occupied Azerbaijani lands in order to assess the situation of religious, cultural and historical heritage of the region, culture and Tourism Minister Abulfez Garayev told reporters.

He said the members of the fact-finding mission have already been defined.

"UNESCO will send fact-finding mission to the occupied lands in Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The visit will be by mid-May. The mission will analyze Azerbaijani cultural heritage in occupied lands and Armenia, and Armenian cultural heritage in Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. The main objective is to prepare fair and unbiased document reflecting current situation. We are ready to admit our mistakes if there is any. But I consider opposing side is in much worse condition than we are. We are preparing special collections now. They will be published on March 30-Day of Azerbaijani genocide," he said.

The Minister said he hopes OSCE fact-finding mission will visit the region before the UNESCO mission, APA reports.
