Justice Deputy Minister Nazim Alekberov said that 60 of women prisoners were sentenced for deliberate murder, 52 for being engaged in illicit drug turnover, 55 for knavishness, 7 for robbery, and 79 for committing other crimes. 60 of them are married, 52 are widows, 104 are divorcees, and 37 are single. 101 of the women have children, but no husband. 20 of them committed grave crimes on family dispute. 11 of them were often underwent tortures.
Nazim Alekberov said that the women are usually forgotten by their husbands and are not allowed to see their children.
Nazim Alekberov says that about 2%of all prisoners are women. The Deputy Minister said that 8 women were pardoned by the latest Pardon decree of the President, APA reports.
