Speaking at the opening ceremony, Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Qarayev said during the event the Azerbaijani audience will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with Egyptian cinema, its fine arts, traditional dances and folk music.
The Minister said the Week of Egyptian Culture in Azerbaijan will also be held in Shaki and Sumgayit provinces.
Egyptian Deputy Minister of Culture Mohammed Anwar Ibrahim conveyed the greetings from his country's President, Hosni Mubarak, and Culture Minister, Farouk Hosni, to the Azerbaijani people.
The Egyptian guest noted the ties between the two countries are very deeply rooted, adding he believes bilateral cultural relations will further deepen.
The event continued with a screening of Egyptian "Darkness" film which won a number of international awards.
Ambassador of Egypt to Azerbaijan Yusif Ahmed Ibrahim al-Sharkawi was also present at the opening ceremony. AzerTAg
