First independent Azerbaijan's National Security Minister died

Ilguseyn Guseynov, the first National Security Minister of a sovereign Azerbaijan state, died yesterday at the age of 80, online paper Day.Az reports.

Ministry of National Security General Guseynov retired from the ministerial post in 1992.

More than twenty years, between 1962 and 1988, he headed the Department of Foreign Intelligence of Azerbaijan. In 1988 has was appointed the First Vice Chairman of the KGB of the republic.

In 1990 Guseynov received the Medal "For Intelligence Service," he was one of the few in the history of the Soviet foreign intelligence who was awarded so high award, according to Day.Az.

In 1991 he became the first National Security Minister of Azerbaijan, and in a year when the Popular Front of Azerbaijan came to power, he retired, online paper adds.
