Roman Pope Benedict XVI: "I show great respect to Islam"

Roman Catholic Pope Benedict XVI declared himself "deeply sorry" for the effect his remarks have had on the Muslim world.

As APA reports, the words of the Byzantine emperor he quoted, Benedict explained, were "from Medieval text which do not in any way express my personal thoughts".

The pope said his remarks were misunderstood, "I show great respect to all religious men in the world, including Muslims".
