Some 180 athletes from Azerbaijan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Norway, Italy, Georgia and Israel attend the event, APA reports.
In their opening speeches, Azad Rahimov, Minister of Youth and Sport, Fizuli Alakbarov, President of Azerbaijan Judo Federation and Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population told of rapid development of all kinds of sport in the country, including judo, as well as successes, Azerbaijani athletes gained in the international competitions.
Densign White, sports director of the European Judo Union (EJU) expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the competition was well organized.
In women's section, Shensha Yildiz (48kg, Turkey), Samat Aynur (52kg, Turkey), Kifayat Gasimova (57kg, Azerbaijan) and Estre Mirabo (63kg, Norway) mounted the highest step on the podium.
In men's section, Vakhtang Khositashvili (60kg, Georgia), Ramil Gasimov (66kg, Azerbaijan) and Elmaddin Ahmadov (73kg, Azerbaijan) claimed the World Cup winner title.
Winners in another 7 weight categories will be announced on August 27.
