Pilot project on juvenile discussed

On July 21, the State Committee on Problems of Family, Women and Children of Azerbaijan together with the Baku Office of UNICEF has organized a round-table.

On the action, devoted to the pilot project connected with reforms in juvenile justice, were invited the professors of Essex University (UK) Caroline Hamilton and Rachel Harvey.

Chairperson of the Committee Hijran Huseynova spoke on the reforms conducted in the system of juvenile justice of the country according to recommendations of Committee on the rights of the child of the United Nations. She also informed, that the UNICEF for the first time in Azerbaijan has prepared a pilot project connected with these reforms. She told about successful results of the mentioned project which is carried out in Tajikistan since 2004, also has noted, that during realization of this program prepared on the basis of the international experience will be considered the country's characteristic peculiarities.

The head of office Hanaa Singer informed on the project has emphasized importance of preparation of the given program with a view of improvement of position of children in the frame of existing system of justice, elimination of gaps available in it. She noted, that the project would be realized together with the state structures and non-governmental organizations.

According to AzerTAg, professors of the Essex University have told about preliminary model of the project, which will be carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of juvenile justice.
