Education Ministry invalidates Independent Azerbaijan University

06 May 2006 [08:20] - TODAY.AZ
Education Ministry made a decision to invalidate Independent Azerbaijan University.

Education Minister Misir Mammadov told at press conference today that it was decided in ministry board meeting not to extend the license of this university.

Saying license of this university has expired in 2004, Mr. Mardanov stated that after invalidation, the students of this university who was legally admitted would be transferred to other higher education institutions.

The reason for invalidation is that this university has not honored 2004 presidential decree by which student admission by the university was barred. Only State Commission on Student Admission can deal with entrance exams, however, this university admitted students on the basis of its own entrance exams.

"This university admitted 1,734 students illegally."

Mr. Mardonov acknowledged that the university had sued the ministry and if the court would make decision in favor of the university, the decision had to be fulfilled.

University management refused to answer any questions, APA reports.
