Intellectual property copyrights discussed

On the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, 23 April (also known as International Day of the Book or World Book Day) and World Intellectual Property Day, 26 April, there took place "round table" on the topic "The role of protection of scientific achievements through copyrights of intellectual property in socio-economic development" organized by joint initiative of Azerbaijan Ombudsman and the Agency for Copyrights of Azerbaijan.

Representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan took part at the event.

Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan Republic Elmira Suleymanova noted, that last years huge work is being carried out in the country on protection of human rights, also in the field of protection of cultural rights and the rights of intellectual property.

Chairman of the Agency of Copyrights Kamran Imanov made a report on the mentioned theme. According to him, great attention is paid to this sphere. The rights of intellectual property are regulated through numerous laws, he said. "Azerbaijan has acceded to the Bern Convention "On protection of literary works" and other conventions, adopted the Law "On Copyrights and the Rights Connected to it", other legislative acts in the field of intellectual property.

Kamran Imanov noted, that the inventions subject to intellectual property are protected by state and confirmed by patent. "Now, the economic importance of intellectual property rises quickly, and intellectual potential gives impetus to development of the economy of Azerbaijan," Imanov underlined.

The conferees held discussions and made certain proposals to improve protection of copyrights of intellectual property, AzerTAg reports.
