Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova received PACE raporteur

As APA informs, the Ombudsman during the meeting said that the gender equality issue is one of the main components to guarantee human rights in the society, and noted that the Azerbaijani legislation provides that both women and men have the same rights in the country.

It was also stressed that establishment of the Ombudsman's Institution in Azerbaijan had special significance and gender problems in the country were put into discussion several times on an initiative by the Ombudsman.

The Ombudsman said that women take active part in public-political life of the country, special measures and programs are carried out in order to ensure the right for women to adopt decisions and to be represented in elective organs. The Ombudsman also spoke about the problems of female prisoners and their detention conditions, family violence and other problems.

The guest thanked the Ombudsman for detailed information and exchange of views.
